As a couple, we travel for our sanity and relationship. Travel is important in our day-to-day lives because we both work from home and getting away is the only time we take a break from answering telephones and responding to e-mails. It also helps us focus on each other and not the next thing on the calendar or to do list. Now with the technology of email and cell phones it is easy to stay in touch and still be "hands on" when we travel, but just the change of scenery is a boost to our own mental health. Our motto has always been "Work to Live" and we believe that quantity of work is no substitute for quality.
As parents, we travel because we want our son to understand there is more to the world than just the United States of America. We are trying to expose him to other languages and cultures so he learns tolerance and acceptance ... and hopefully uses his experiences to develop his own values and views.
As a family, we travel because it provides us with undivided and focused time together. When we're home we are often running in different directions with work travel, meetings, sports practices and games. When we travel we spend valuable time together as a family; sightseeing, relaxing, dining and enjoying our new experiences. We find that with each trip our son blossoms in new and exciting ways.
To make all this possible, we have come to tolerate red-eye flights and squeeze a lot of activities into quick 3 and 4 day weekend trips. But, for us, it's worth every minute.

We recently rode the Red Dress Party float in Portland's Gay Pride Parade. The weather was perfect and the crowds fantastic.
In less than two weeks we're off to our favorite Caribbean island and we're looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones. This year we're going to focus on the more "inexpensive" locations on the island as the US dollar is killing everybody there right now.
