Copenhagen 2006

For Thanksgiving 2006 we took our usual trip to visit Tony's mother in England, but we wanted to take a slight detour beforehand. At first we were going to go back to our favorite city, Berlin, but we were notified by Air Berlin that the flight we were booked on out of Amsterdam had been cancelled. We had a choice, they would book us on a different airline at no extra cost or we could get a complete refund.  As our main tickets were booked into Amsterdam we thought about searching for another city we could visit for 3 or 4 days until Ashton could join us back in Amsterdam and we would all visit Grandma.  We took the refund so with the criteria of cheap airfare, a Marriott Hotel, a Hard Rock Cafe and of course a few places of interest we decided on Copenhagen.  Two tickets on Transavia airlines at a cost of only 21 Euro  roundtrip each and 3 nights on Marriott points it was an easy choice. Flying out on Thursday we landed early Friday morning in Amsterdam reasonably refreshed as United Airlines upgraded us all the way. We breezed through customs and had plenty of time to get a breath of fresh air at Schiphol before checking in for our 40 minute flight to Denmark.
We are now really into using trains and Copenhagen has one of the easiest and quickest to get from the airport to the main station downtown, two round trip tickets 108 Kr. and a quick walk to the Marriott beats an expensive taxi ride any day.  We were given a lovely room overlooking the water where we took a quick nap before we set out for an evening stroll in one of the cleanest and safest cities we have been to so far. Naturally we always look for a nice local bar to start us off and of course we found one.
True to form we found a friendly bartender at Alfred Huiid's bar.  Back at the hotel Cheri was on form too especially after a few hot wines.
We also found the Hard Rock Cafe, our 55th one worldwide.
The next morning we were up fairly early and yet again we were very lucky with the weather, a little chilly but the sun was out and no rain in sight.
While in Copenhagen we were told you have to see The Little Mermaid first, so we set off along the canal, past the Nyhavn district and other historic sites that we did revisit in more detail as we worked our way back through the city.
Cheri wanted to pose like The Little Mermaid but it was too cold and too many tourists.
But Tony was happy, when by chance we found a free beer tasting event in Nyhavn and #17 was his favorite.
The guards were on duty outside the Queen of Denmark's residence.
And Cheri looks like she was guarding the local toilet.
A great little Cafe but we went for an outside experience with a heater and a very hot coffee and a shot of brandy.
It was getting colder so we decided to warm ourselves up in the Museum Erotica
Cheri had to take a breather on the red velvet bed, pity the museum was crowded as it could have given us a great photo opportunity. Thinking about it now we realized nobody would have given us a second glance if she had stripped off. Not as seedy as we thought it would be, so well worth the money if you are in to the history of erotica.
After touring the museum we had to have a drink (not a smoke) on the way back to the hotel. Good opportunity to get our glasses from the HRC and prepare for tonight's "party".
When we decided on Copenhagen we contacted Stig,  the organizer of a highly acclaimed fetish party and we thought it would be interesting to attend. Well after our experiences at Fantasy Fest - why not?  He informed us the dress code was very strict which we had no trouble adhering to of course but we visited the website www.manifest.com to make sure we were prepared. No cameras were allowed so we had our photo opportunities at the hotel, before and after. We arrived at 11:00 pm and the party was still in full swing at 4:00 am when we left. 500 Kr to get in which included free beer and wine and Cheri's rum and cokes were only a $1 each.
Cheri getting ready
The party was in a converted warehouse, a quick taxi ride from the hotel. As soon as we entered Stig introduced himself and we felt at ease that this was not an orgy fest but normal people, dressed (or undressed) enjoying themselves. OK, as the evening progressed we thought we were back in the Erotica Museum and seeing it live. The DJ was on form and the music got people on the dance floor. Then around midnight the place was full with people in amazing outfits bringing in their own fun toys. No more explanation needed really!!!!!!!!
Cheri "lost" her top, too overdressed.
Cheri is still in a party mood.
Despite a very late night, or should we say an early morning we were out of bed reasonably early so we could capitalize on some good weather and see even more of Copenhagen.
We found our way back to Nyhavn, listened to local Christmas songs and found a wonderful small restaurant called Galionen. We warmed up with a bowl of their great fish soup and a bottle of wine before seeing Tivoli Gardens and other historic buildings decorated with Christmas lights.

A night cap in the hotel bar and we retired reasonably early for us as we wanted to take a canal tour the next morning before catching our afternoon flight to Amsterdam.

Our Saviour's Church, but it was closed for renovation.
Our ride picks us up right outside the hotel and for only 60 Kr on DFDS canal tours it was well worth taking a water view of Copenhagen.
Cheri enjoyed the inside while Tony took some great pictures, despite the cold but one sight warmed him up.
A great shot of the reflective glass at The Royal Library
The Danes are a seafaring nation but in a submarine?
A room with a couple of nice views.

A quick shower after a late check out and we were off to catch the train to the airport.

In Amsterdam we would see quite a few ladies posing behind glass so Cheri gave a great preview.
A quick train and plane ride and we were back in rainy Amsterdam.
On to Amsterdam and Nottingham
