St. Martin/St. Maarten  / July 2004

This was our fifth visit to the island and it only gets better. Again we invited Kris (of course) and her boyfriend, George. She had met George a few years earlier when she was on a cruise and he was the ship's doctor.  We arrived two days before them and  we decided to spend the extra nights at Le Petit Hotel in Grand Case.  What a great choice, we had driven by it on many occasions and every time we said "we will have to stay there next time". So this was our opportunity.  After a long flight and even a longer layover in Chicago we finally arrived at 10:20 pm but Michael from Unity Car Rental was there with our jeep and Sam met us with our key despite not arriving at the hotel till past 11:00 pm.  Wow, what a room he gave us, top floor overlooking the beach.  The bed was so comfortable we slept right through the complimentary breakfast the next morning but Sam was kind enough to make more coffee and bring up a few more of those fresh chocolate croissants.
We spent the first day relaxing on the beach by the hotel and shopping in Marigot and visited our favorite wine shop, Le Gout du Vin

Naturally we had to go see our good friend Karl at Kon Tiki and he was pleased to see us. Cheri was very happy to be back on her favorite beach.
On our second day Kris and George arrived and we were warming up the bar stools at The Sunset Beach Bar.  George soon got into the swing of things and Cheri & Kris were re-united where they can drink for free, that is IF they go topless.
We stayed longer than we expected as Cheri & Kris found a new "recruit" but do you blame us?
It only took a few Caribs and Tony realized he had found a new friend
Cheri needed a breather before we headed back to the hotel.
Here we are in the usual SXM traffic and it took us over 45 minutes to get to Grand Case but a lot less to shower, change and walk to our favorite restaurant The Cottage in town.
The next morning we had to check out and move to The Oyster Bay Beach Resort over at Oyster Pond. George was not a willing helper in packing up the jeep, as we think those Caribs got to him yesterday but as a true South African he rallied and was looking for the hair of the dog very soon.
As the morning was cloudy we decided to go for a ride around the island, do a little shopping but we soon ended up back at The Sunset Beach Bar.  George liked the idea of topless women drink for free and Tony thought he could get a free drink too. So after a few beers we decided this week we would each have a day to choose the activity or location and the other three had to go with it, no matter what.  As we all sat at the bar thinking, Tony declared this would be his day.....BAR HOPPING
Tony's Day
It was going to be one or two drinks and we would be off but as Cheri and Kris were putting on their shirts they were pleaded to keep them off by a young girl who wanted to drink for free. She did not want to do it alone so they had another new "recruit" and George and Tony were happy.  Soon we had to move on as we getting a few bad looks from the lunch crowd.  Remembering Neil's invitation to Tony that topless women could drink for free at his bar we set off for The Buccaneer Beach Bar
Camera's were out and Neil had no idea what he had let himself in for. Apart from topless women drinking for free, Neil had his own fun "shot drink" on his bar but the girls were wearing skirts.  Neil was prepared and he sold Tony three different colored "Buccaneer"  thongs, black for Cheri, red for Kris and white for Keli.
We were now getting in the party mood and the girls wanted to try the shots.
Cheri was up first ; the tequila is poured into the belly button, salt sprinkled on the boobs and the lime placed in the mouth.
The boys had their fun and then the girls wanted their own.
It was time to cool off, get dressed and move on, unfortunately not on the Harley but in the jeep.
Despite how late it was Gerard was still waiting to serve us a fantastic dinner at Le Planteur and as you can see we had cleaned up quite well.  That's one good thing we can do, one hour being really crazy and then the next act fairly sophisticated and then go back to being a little crazy.  Tony's day still and he wanted to go down to Captain Oliver's pool to cool off.  Nobody refused in this group of course.

So that was Tony's day.  See what Kris and George, and Cheri did on their days.
