We really had to get away from the rain, so we decided to take the 90-minute ride up to the mountains and see the wet stuff come down in the form of snow.  After dropping the boys off on the slopes to do some snowboarding we realized it was best to put the snow chains on the car or we would be stuck in the parking lot.  Cheri got to work!
Then the snow really started to come down, so it was a quick dash to the local tavern -      Charlie's in Government Camp.
A call to the kids to see if they are OK "mum leave us alone we are having fun" was the answer so we decided we could have a good time too
Surprising what a nice hot fire, a couple of hot chocolate drinks and Irish coffees can do to get the blood flowing again
Cheri had packed a blanket, she is always prepared for any occasion, but this one was not what were used to.  30 degrees instead of 90.  It was cold away from the those trees !!!!!!!!
So where was that blanket, the clothes and the warm car?
Now we had to find a bar to warm us up again.
We found one, "The Ratskeller" certainly not as good as the one in Munich but it served the purpose.  A warm fire and another hot chocolate, this time with an extra shot of peppermint schnapps

Mt. Hood - A Tale of Two Seasons

Home     Trip Reports     Travel Tips
So after the snow we had to take a trip and see the mountain in a different season. Despite it being over 100 degrees in the valley there was still a lot of snow high up. Mt. Hood (and Cheri) looked beautiful.
We were on a little wine tour and after visiting two family owned wineries, Phelps Creek and Pheasant Valley just outside of Hood River, we found a few great places for some wonderful photo opportunities.     And it was getting hotter!
The things we go through to get that great shot, actually it's what Cheri does and Tony follows.
We went a little higher & the trees made a perfect frame.
A little higher and you can see the whole valley too.
On the way back down we found the winery we were looking for, quite appropriate - Mt. Hood Winery.
Strange hours but a great Pinot Noir.
We purchased a few bottles and on our way home we took the opportunity to take one last picture to show that not Oregon has wonderful scenes.  Washington has their own mountain(s), here you can see Mt. Adams in the background.
We travel all over the world but we realize we have great scenes and interesting places to go in our own backyard and I'm sure we will visiting a few more over the next few months.
