East Berlin &
Frankfurt
Sunday afternoon was tough but after a few hours sleep we were ready for
some fresh air and a nice stroll around "East Berlin" and get ready for dinner.
This afternoon we headed down Mohenstrasse past the Communist
Museum and on to the Konzerthaus, of course stopped in at
Newton for a drink. Tried to get a photograph opportunity with Cheri and
Newton's nude ladies, but Cheri was not inclined to strip off this time.
Walking on to the Rathaus, Berlin Dom and Bode Museum
you can see construction and remodeling on every street corner.
Tonight we had to stay local so Uwe reserved a table at the newer location
of Lutter & Wegner which is very close to The Sony Center.
Good service, large wine selection and very good food with some great people
watching if you get a window seat.
Always watch for the green man when walking in Berlin
A quick walk around The Sony Center and it was an early night for us
as we were flying out to Frankfurt the next morning.
Not sure what it is about Berlin but it gets Cheri flashing.
The next morning we
took a quick Lufthansa flight to Frankfurt and
Tony was soon showing Cheri the places he had experienced at the World Cup
in July 06. We once again stayed at The Marriott, which we were
told was the 2nd one built in Germany. Although the staff was
friendly, it was not up to the
standards of the Berlin Marriott. But we were given a nice room with a
wonderful view.
Frankfurt
The city seems to
have buildings fighting for space and it looks like the
bigger modern ones are winning.
But there are still some nice historic areas to visit, especially down by
the river and in the town square.
The sun was out so what is better than sitting with the locals in their own
town square and having a beer?
After a nice walk around town it was back to the hotel to a nice view of the
sunset. Overall we had a great time in both cities and there were smiles all
around.
We were now at the end of our trip, Cheri was off home in the morning and
Tony had to leave for a business meeting in Vienna, so we opted for a local, quiet restaurant
called Peilok which was just a few blocks from the hotel. Good local food and
perhaps the cheapest dinner for us while in Germany.
